Guy Martinez

Self-taught painter, Guy Martinez was born on Christmas 1960 in Arlés, France. The decision to remain in his hometown and paint there meant that he was assuming the inherent risks that come with following in the steps of those of elders who had done the same, and left their marks in art history books. While he embraces this lineage and cultural heritage of the town that has housed so many great artists, Guy revels in his own artistic freedom. Truly a child of the Provence Alpes-Côte d'Azur region with its rich ancestral traditions, incomparable light, and colors of unparalleled vivacity, Guy characterizes the area's landscape in his own way: colorful and powerful winds blustering on terrain that falls somewhere between land and sea, an area where the destinies of man, animal, and earth are intimately linked. Entering the universe of Guy Martinez is to experience the contemporary while grounded in tradition. Having traversed a rich journey in only a few years, Guy's body of work is marked by large paintings with intense sensitivity, and a comical light shone on subjects we see every day. He opened his gallery and studio in 2009, and has exhibited in several international shows and galleries: 2012 Touring group exhibition, “Toréador”, in Nimes, Arles, Seville, and Madrid 2014 Carrousel du Louvre, Paris 2015 - 2017 SIAC (International Contemporary Art Fair Marseille) Martinez has taken steps far from the comfort of what he knows and is venturing into the world of art in the United States. Hitting the Royal Street art scene in the care of French Art Network will be French painter Guy Martinez's greatest adventure. A gritty look joins forces with a sweet subject matter to tickle our fancy and spark our interest in urban vigor. Martinez focuses on Bulldogs dripping with personality and sharing the spotlight with some of today's most hip and happening things: tattoos, and graffiti background images of Ford Mustangs, Converse sneakers, and even Christian Louboutin shoes.

Great Art, Great People to Deal With. I've been doing business with this gallery for fifteen years and have purchased 4 major works of art from them. I love the artists they represent, the quality of work they sell, and the stable employee base that represents the artists. I once had a problem with a frame that showed cracking after two years. They had the art picked up and delivered by professional packagers/transporters after replacing the frame with an even better one. Their level of salesmanship and follow-up customer care is outstanding. I never come to town without stopping in to enjoy some of the best contemporary art available in the French Quarter.
