About The Artwork
With a passion for life and creativity, Alexi Serykh creates oil paintings that have Rockwellian flare with a twenty-first century edginess. Influenced by his many life experiences, he’s worked in blue collar jobs as well as white collar jobs, his paintings resonate with everyday life and present a side to that everyday life that is often overlooked. Attention to detail along with a turpentine wash, keeps his technique light and translucent. Minimal texture tricks the eye into seeing wonderful layers of depth that aren’t there, while colors blend and marry with surrounding spaces to create washed areas that still form detailed imagery.
While studying in art school in Russia, Serykh realized he had a passion for movement and for creative gestures. He became particularly interested in figurative works, creating a colorful and bold background in order to allow focus to land on the figure in each painting. He will often reverse the technique and leave a lighter background with intense colors creating his figure and character.
His highly realistic style is taken from the school of realism and translates itself into the action and people in his paintings. At some point in time all of us has been either close to or in the same situations as his characters.
Shown in museums and galleries all over the world, Serykh, credits his hard work and creative edge for his visual success. He says “Creativity is my life. Even when I am dreaming, I am painting new pictures in my head”.
